Premium credit cards are all the rage, but there’s one you might not have that’s absolutely worth considering.
I’ve carried the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card since it was unveiled in 2021, and it’s still the easiest card to justify each year.
For a premium card, I love how simple it is. The $395 annual fee, the Venture X delivers benefits that easily exceed the cost — without tracking limited-time perks, hitting spend thresholds, or (dare I say it) building a spreadsheet.
Below, I’ll break down exactly how this card practically pays for itself.

75,000-mile sign-up bonus
The Venture X currently offers 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months.
At a minimum, those miles are worth $750 toward travel when redeemed through Capital One Travel. But you can stretch them much further by transferring to partners like Air Canada Aeroplan, Virgin Red, or Air France Flying Blue.
I’ve used Capital One miles to book business class to Europe for 60,000 miles one-way — way more value than redeeming directly through Capital One Travel.
Note that you’re not eligible for the welcome offer if you’ve received a bonus on the Venture or Venture X within the past 48 months.
$300 annual travel credit
This is where the card starts getting really valuable. In my mind, two benefits alone offset the $395 annual fee.
Starting with the $300 annual travel credit for bookings through Capital One Travel.

I’ve found it really easy to use. I typically apply it to a flight I was going to book anyway.
You need to use it for travel booked via the Capital One Travel portal, but flight prices are almost always the same as booking directly with an airline. So I book my first (and sometimes second) flight of the year through Capital One Travel and call it a day.
Easy.
10,000-mile anniversary bonus
The next most lucrative benefit is 10,000 bonus miles every anniversary. They’re deposited automatically after your first cardmember year — and every year thereafter — with no activation required.
Those miles are worth at least $100 in travel, and potentially much more when you transfer them to partners.
Assuming you’re a semi-regular traveler, the $300 travel credit and 10,000-mile anniversary bonus alone more than offset the annual fee.
Access to Capital One Lounges
Now that you’ve offset the annual fee, it’s time to start using the card’s benefits.
Venture X cardholders get complimentary access to Capital One Lounges, and the network has quickly become one of the best in the business. The dining experience is a standout. (I’m especially partial to the grab-and-go counters.)
Capital One currently operates five lounges:
- Denver International Airport (DEN)
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
- Dulles International Airport (IAD)
- John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
- Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
The issuer also has two Capital One Landing outposts in New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and Washington D.C.’s Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

Another lounge is opening soon in Charlotte.
Primary Venture X cardholders get complimentary access to all Capital One Lounges and Landings. Spend at least $75,000 across your Venture X account in a calendar year, and you’ll unlock two complimentary guests at Capital One Lounges and one at Capital One Landings per visit.
Otherwise, guest fees are $45 per visit for travelers 18 and older, $25 for those 17 and under, and free for children under two.
You’ll also get a Priority Pass membership, which gives the primary cardholder access to eligible lounges worldwide. Just note that you’ll need to enroll in the benefit.
$395 annual fee
I’ve mentioned the $395 annual fee, but it’s worth comparing to the card’s two biggest competitors.
- American Express Platinum Card®: $895
- Chase Sapphire Reserve®: $795
The Venture X is significantly more affordable. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Capital One raise the fee in the coming years — much like Amex and Chase did with their top-tier cards — but for now, it remains a screaming deal.
6 more travel perks
Beyond everything above, the card includes a long list of supplementary perks. Many premium cards offer similar benefits, but the Venture X is one of the most affordable ways to start taking advantage of them.
- Up to $120 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck
- Complimentary Hertz President’s Circle elite status
- Primary rental car insurance
- Cell phone protection
- Trip cancellation, trip delay, and lost luggage coverage
- No foreign transaction fees

Adding authorized users to your account is free, but if you want them to have access to Capital One Lounges and Landings, you’ll pay $125 annually per authorized user (capped at four).
Bottom line
The Venture X isn’t the flashiest premium credit card, but the math is simple: $400 in easy annual value against a $395 fee, before you even factor in lounge access, rental car status, or the welcome bonus.
If you’re looking for a premium travel card that doesn’t require a spreadsheet to justify, the Venture X is the easiest recommendation I can offer.
